Liner Repair

Liner holes, tears & termite damage repaired underwater Patching Pool Vinyl Liners

Patching Pool Vinyl Liners

We dive Pools for Inspection/Leak Detection. We identify holes in liners and dye test suspect spots like gaskets at steps, skimmers & return fittings. We repair/seal/patch/fix those leaking areas. In most cases we can stop all leaks. In rare cases some liners are beyond repair. If you need a new liner, in most cases we can slow down your Leak(s) for the remainder of the season. This gives you more time to shop for a New Liner replacement.

Pressure Test

Locate Hidden Pipe Leaks
Precisely within 2 ft.

Pressure Test - Locate Electronically

We first identify what pipe(s) are leaking by pressure testing the pipes. Once we determine which pipe(s) Leak then we go about precisely locating or pinpointing those underground Leaks. We usually can locate those concealed leaks under Patios or decks etc. with High Tech electronics like helium detectors or sonar/microphones. We mark the suspected Leak areas and then your pool company can do the Leak repair or we can recommend a Pool co.

Underwater Leaks

Vinyl Liner, Gunite or
Light Pool Leaks

Patching minor cracks or holes

Leaks can be repaired underwater. Whether it is holes in a vinyl liner or minor cracks in a gunite pool, those leaks can be repaired by a diver underwater. Light leaks or leaks at gaskets also can be sealed, or patched in most cases.

Skimmer Leaks

Leaks inside or around
the skimmer opening

Typically sealed with epoxy

Skimmer Leaks are most common in gunite pools where the skimmer meets the sidewall of the pool, Vinyl liner pools (especially older liners indicating older gaskets) sometimes develop Leaks behind the faceplate where the gasket meets the liner & skimmer. In both liner pools & gunite pools leaks an happen inside the skimmer itself due to cracks. We can repair all with epoxy.

Don't Know?

Is the Leak in the inside
of pool or the plumbing?

Leak Detection tests you can do

Diagnosing where the leak is not a very difficult process initially. First we attempt to determine if the leak is in the interior of the pool or the piping. We want to see if you loose more water with the pool pump on or off. Once this is done then we decide on whether an underwater dive or pressure test is needed.

Electronic Detection

For greater precision
with our Leak Detecting

We use it sometimes

We use electronic microphones and helium detectors to precisely locate under the ground pipe Leaks. Some companies use a scanner (typically the Anderson Leak Trac) to electronically find liner Leaks. We have been there done that. We feel we can do a much better job the old-fashioned way by scuba diving and repairing your liner. We can explain our rationale to you.

When do you replace the Pool Pipes?
  • If you are getting a new patio/pavers soon
  • You have flexible PVC that's already been damaged by termites
  • If the distance from equipment area to pool is very short or if a re-pipe can be accomplished primarily around the existing patio under earth.
When to replace liner or get it repaired - consider it if:
  • The liner is 10+ yrs old or more
  • The liner is bleached out - sometimes indicates the liner is aged or lost its elasticity & becomes brittle.
  • A liner that loses its elasticity can be susceptible to large tears of even cracking several feet or more, and can sometimes be hard to repair.
  • You just like the look of a new liner and money is not an issue for you.

The Leak Detecting process starts with 1 Question

Do you need a diver for some sort of underwater repair or a pressure test of the pipes to help locate a pipe Leak? If you don't know, see the pump test below.

POOL LEAK TESTS THAT CAN BE DONE

Owners can help us determine whether the leak is in the pipes or the interior of the pool, to Steer us in the right direction

THE POOL PUMP ON / OFF TEST:

Losing more water with the pool pump running or with the pump off? Run the pump for say 8, 12 or 24 hours and compare for the same period of time with the pump off. If you lose more water running the pool pump, that typically means the leak is in the return, Polaris or supply lines. If you lose more water with the pool pump off that generally means the leak is in a suction line (the skimmer or main drain line) and you would need the pipe Leak located. If you lose at the same rate it is generally in the interior of the pool - light leak, hole in liner or crack in gunite pool and you would need an interior inspection by a diver.

ANOTHER LEAK TEST THAT CAN BE DONE:

Plug the pool plumbing lines (be sure to unplug your pool pumps) and shut off main drain valve or just run off the main (if you have one) by shutting off the skimmer valve(s) at the front of pump. Now let's see where your pool water level goes over the next several days.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS/ PRIOR HISTORY
